Free Fallin' (1990)

A new decade making a start devoid of any Ted approved music until Tom Petty came along with this offering:

Eternal Flame (1989)

Song inspired by the bands' visit to Graceland where they saw the "Eternal Flame" maintained in memoriam to Elvis Presley. [actually the flame was extinguished on the day they visited but it still inspired the song]

Red Red Wine (1988)

Not particularly fond of Reggae Ted was nevertheless attracted to this little ditty partly because he had started to properly appreciate red wine, the drink, and partly because he appreciated the irony of naming ones successful band after a government unemployment benefit form number.

Sisters of Mercy (1987)

Well mercy me it's amazing Ted is still with us given some of his music choices. A lesser man might have just ended it all to the mournful strains of L Cohen Esq.

Sledgehammer (1986)

More stuff you didn't know about Ted:
Having dabbled in his youth with subuteo figures, a 16mm Bolex Reflex camera, and stop frame animation he was attracted to this song by an admiration for the video and it's special effects.

Do they know it's Christmas (1985)

The year of Live Aid and Bob Geldof's rise to prominence and first step toward Knighthood.

Legs (1984)

Ted's first brush with Texas; he's always been fond of legs and has noticed more of them on show in this warm climate :-)

The Texas International Boat Show Apr 23 - 26

And the boats are arriving in droves, or I suppose fleets would be a better descriptive.

Every Breath You Take(1983)

Another teacher bites the dust in favor of a career in the spotlight; who can blame them?

It Started with a Kiss (1982)

Ted met Hot Chocolate's lead singer Errol Brown once. It was in Liberty's Nightclub, Hagley Road, Birmingham probably at the staff Christmas party in December 1982. No doubt Mr Brown has a less vivid memory of their brief meeting seeing as how he is the celebrity and Ted was, and is, just a member of the public.

The Tide is High (1980)

Fond memories of moving into a new house and having lots of parties.
Unfortunately YouTube doesn't want this video embedded so here is a link to it instead: Blondie

Sultans of Swing (1979)

Ted has now moved North and "temporarily" works in Birmingham city center. This is to be a 3 week visit; he stayed 3 years. This is indicative of his employers' "word" - that would be the employer NOT CURRENTLY PAYING HIS PENSION!
There he discovers the delights of a wine bar called "Hawkins" which features a laser light and dry ice fog show set to music. Dire Straits predominate memories of this era.

The Fit Family

Well, the kids at least can claim that title :-)

Hollywood Nights (1978)

This was the year of the Gibbs brothers; Shadow Dancing, Stayin' Alive, How Deep is your love, Love is Thicker than Water, An Everlasting Love.
Not for Ted who preferred Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band. Another surprise for you gentle readers.
Chris Rea also made an appearance with "Fool". I think I now possess all Chris Reas' albums.

A Star is Born (1977)

The film was released in December 1976, a remake of course, as the rot had already set in with a lack of new ideas in the movie business. I recall seeing it in a theatre in London with colleagues from work. The song was popular throughout 1977.
This was also the year of Abba and Dancing Queen but they got a mention in 1974 so if you prefer Abba to BS [think about it] click on the link.

Little Ted's first blog

Little Ted saw this at a block party we attended for Easter and thought it worth a picture. He's not quite up to writing his own entries yet but is desperate to keep up with his sister.

Only Sixteen (1976)

What can I say, the 70's were pretty dire throughout the decade but this was the year I didn't like anything.
Here's one that got by, why, I have no idea except maybe because it was promoted on "The Old Grey Whistle Test" by "Whispering Bob Harris".

Scooby Doo

We just got our new iRobot we
named him Scooby Doo we named him that because he is a scooba.

Killer Queen (1975)

Another strange choice for Ted, no doubt born of living in the City, but one which stayed with him over the years. An avid Queen fan, yes indeed, something else you probably didn't know about Ted!

Waterloo (1974)

Ted set of to London, England to work for a spell in the City of London. His daily journey took him, by train and underground, from Chiswick to Bank station via "The Drain" or Waterloo & City line which travels underneath the River Thames. That train would stop frequently and, being driven by electric motors, a silence would descend upon it allowing the passengers to hear the drip, drip, drip of water from the Thames on the carriage roof. Very disconcerting and nothing whatsoever to do with ABBA.

Angie (1973)

Back to reality and a music choice made by Ted, for Ted, not for the benefit of anyone else.

The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face (1972)

This was the year I was "conscripted" by Edinburgh University to help out with the projection of slides during an ENT conference. That was certainly the first time, and the last thankfully, that I saw "faces" that were other than normal. It made a definite impression on me confirming my lack of desire to become an ear nose and throat surgeon.

Evil Ways (1970)

Of course as a teenager Ted did suffer a bout of rebelliousness during which time he abandoned Johnny Cash for Santana - briefly, oh so very briefly although there were worse alternatives he could have turned to in the '70's.

A Boy Named Sue (1969)

Moving on swiftly from a brush with hippies and soft fluffy music Ted came to admire a singer more in tune (pardon the pun) with his , as yet unknown, future life in Texas where this is now his preferred genre.
