A whiter shade of pale (1967)

By this time the young Ted was eagerly watching the relatively new BBC show "Top of the Pops" where the likes of this video was order of the day.

Although never, by any stretch of the imagination, a hippy this was Ted's favorite song of 1967:

As Tears Go By (1965)

Definitely a more innocent age; can you imagine a modern introduction and then follow up interview being so, so - "non invasive"
[Would you mind awfully talking a bit about your song Miss Faithfull]

Lunchtime in Corpus

Thursday Whataburger, weather somewhat overcast 81F with a bit of a wind blowing. Quite pleasant so I just sat in a park overlooking the marina and watched the boaters at play.

Sealed with a Kiss (1962)

When Ted was 9 years old this was "pop" music. Hillarious on reflection, or perhaps just innocent? Keep in mind that the bright young things dancing in the background are now in their 60's or 70's !

It's Raining, bye bye baby (1959) - Part 2

Oh and I actually have the original album although I lack the antiquated means to play it.

It's Raining, bye bye baby (1959)

I remember my mother playing an LP, or album as we would say today, of the San Remo Song Festival 1959. I believe this was her favorite track as it has stuck in my mind and was therefore probably played most often.

Magic Moments (1957)

Ted's grandmother was very fond of Perry Como. She lived in Canada and The USA at various stages during the Fifties and early Sixties and enjoyed his TV shows.

Whilst in reflective mood ...

... here is a video from You Tube which not only lets you know what type of music was available during my first decade on this planet [last century] but also details the mechanics of listening to it.
For you young things out there the strange revolving thing was called a record player and it worked by revolving a piece of plastic on a turntable whilst scratching it with a sharp needle.
The iPod generation doesn't know how fortunate it is!

Perhaps I'll do a series of such posts detailing Ted's listening choices through the ages.

Another picture from the archive

During one of Grand mommy's visits to Scotland, before Little Ted was born, Granny entertains the family to dinner. She was still able to live on her own at this point in time and enjoyed entertaining in her own home.

Commuting, the perils thereof:

Not so much the fog more the 2 tons of metal roaring out of the fog behind me and charging off into the fog ahead of me. Hope no-one is crawling in the outside lane!

Boy with knife

Ted has tried to impress upon Little Ted the need to treat sharp knives with respect.
So far it's not worked and I fear it may take a cut finger to press the point home. (No pun intended)

Spring break

We're in Victoria today, looking for a lunch venue the kids suggested Pizza Hut, Whataburger or Dairy Queen.
Mommy and daddy suggested Tony Carinos or Texas Roadhouse.
Little Ted said what's the Roadhouse and when mommy said steak and fries his response was "I'm in for that!"
Sadly Eddy did not approve so she is ticked off but the rest of us are happy.

Tooth fairy alert

After a good deal of weeping and wailing and insisting on grand mommy coming over to help, Eddy pulled her tooth out herself. She has already placed it under her pillow and is writing a note to TTF as I blog :-)

Grandad?

"You have cute grand kids"
Said the girl at DQ
"Thank you"
Said Ted suddenly feeling very old and losing the will to argue :-)

Jaw breaker (or marker)

First she put it in her mouth, then she pressed it to her cheek, and finally put it back in her mouth and started biting on it furiously. And why, she wonders, does she have a cavity in one of her teeth

"Are you eating candy again?" said daddy
"I'm innocent"
She replied
"Innocent yes, but not of eating candy"
Daddy replied :-)

Be Prepared

These two should be Boy Scouts (and I mean that as a generic term referencing Baden Powell's motto) they brought a supply of candy and "Pass the Pigs" game to play because, and I quote, "we knew it was going to rain and we would be stuck in DQ"

Charlotte and Chic

What use is happiness? It can't buy you money

I may have used this photograph before, but tough, I came across it last night and it reminded me of days gone by so here it is again captioned with a classic Chic Murray joke.
I don't actually remember meeting Chic personally although that is my hairline visible in the bottom right of the picture. He did, however, permeate my life one way or another. His humor on TV brightened my life from childhood to adulthood, and I graced his hotel bar in Edinburgh on many occasions.
His association with my family, I believe, derived from our involvement in cinemas in the early 50's and therefore an involvement in the entertainment business in general. In the 1950's even Hollywood stars came to Edinburgh to attend film premieres. Again, I may have mentioned this before, but for those who haven't visited here before you should know that my mother once had lunch with Cary Grant and claims to have been on a date, in her teenage years, with Sean Connery. Neither claim has surviving evidence but I believe my mother and that is my right :-)

Here is my mother with a glass of wine in one hand and a Golden Retriever (Jenna) in the other. Sitting on her beach towel in the backyard at The Paddock in Scotland.
Happy days :-)

History

This is me, Ted at one week old, held by my paternal grandmother.
She looks quite pleased to have a grandson but alas that didn't last. She was never part of my life, but then neither was her son.
My only regret here is that my son is now in the same position. Not because my mother doesn't want anything to do with him but because she can't have anything to do with him. I left it too late to give her the gift of grandchildren as altzeimers took over her life shortly after Eddy was born. This preys on my mind constantly but I get over it. At least my children have the benefit of maternal grandparents who play an active part in their lives.

Haven't had a bird strike in a couple of weeks; this is a good thing!
The commuting is working out fine, once the children have been dropped off at school, it is quite a peaceful and pleasant drive. And I enjoy listening to the radio.

Sleeping with dogs

Mrs Ted is still not feeling well so Eddy wanted to sleep with her mommy to make sure she was ok
However Mrs Ted didn't think that was a good idea in case Eddy caught her flu so this is what happened. Little Ted would be so jealous if he knew!
