Our list of pets expands

Last weekend we acquired a tarantula spider and a large dung beetle as family pets; today we have added a Texas tree lizard to the collection.
I don't want to discourage the wee beastie from living in our flower bed
but I could wish for him to leave less poo on our front doorstep!

Tartanted.com update

Ted has been playing with his web site in the early hours of Saturday
morning. You should now be able to check out this blog from within

Night at the Museum

Friday was a mixed day for Eddy and particularly Little Ted; not only did we expect them to return to school after a prolonged absence due to fever and strep throat but they were also to be "treated" to a visit to the doctor to update their immunizations.
Eddy had three shots and cried a little but was very brave about it. Little Ted needed four shots and had to be first extracted from under the furniture and then physically held down by Ted, Mrs Ted and a nurse while a second nurse stabbed him six times before successfully completing his four shots. He was not a happy chappy and declared huffily, as I put him in the minivan, "I'm never having any more shots EVER!"
(Not sure at this point how to break the news to him about the booster he needs to go back for in 30 days time)
Anyway, as usual, regardless of an 11am appointment time we did not get away from the surgery until nearly 1pm. So Ted decided to take his unhappy brood, and their four sore legs, to the beach for lunch. We picked up MacDonalds and gave up all plans for a return to school this week. The little monsters recovered sufficiently to enjoy vigorous play on the pirate ship and swings before heading into the water for a long paddling session. (foot, not canoe) Little Ted got soaked from head to foot and had to wear Daddy's shirt on the journey home; Eddy was only slightly damp and dried off in the wind on the way back to the van.

In the evening we continued the "forget about the shots" therapy with a family viewing of "Night at the Museum" which everyone enjoyed and the kids just managed to stay awake until the end credits began to roll. As I write this it is 1.20am and they are still asleep on the floor of the family room; it seemed a shame to disturb them:-)

The slippery slope

Tonight we have been "persuaded" to allow both children to sleep in the Study and fall asleep to the TV playing Power Rangers.
Tomorrow it WILL be different!

Strange creature update

Unearthed during pool leveling project:
Thank you Grandmommy for the link to Tarantula information.

Pool project

The ground leveling is coming on slowly but surely.
We may be in a position to fill the pool next weekend.

Here are two strange creatures unearthed during this project.
Anyone know what they are?

Little Ted is quarantined

Little Ted has had a fever which yesterday disappeared leaving him with a lovely pink rash on his torso. The doctor says it is viral and will be short lived however Eddy will probably follow him by developing the rash early next week. Both are off school right now and are using the time to catch up on ALL available episodes of "Scooby Doo"
Little Ted has conned us into letting him use "the isolation ward" (study) for the last 2 nights.

He knows there is a TV in there and he also knows we do not normally allow TV in the kids bedrooms so now he has fallen asleep with "Power Rangers" for 2 nights in a row and, as you can see, has been enjoying this privilege; will we be able to wean him off the bedtime TV routine when he is better?

More flowers from the yard

Aunt Ruth, can you tell us what these are?

Pixie eye view

This is what passes for a buttercup in South Texas. Not yellow but still very pretty.
My own personal Pixie picked this flower 2 minutes after I photographed it - nothing is sacred to my little Pixie girl!

"Fun guys"

We have toadstools (poetic license) in our back yard and, apparently, a Pixie to live in them.

The Easter Bunny has arrived ...

Since it is 46F outside right now I guess the Easter Bunny was very happy to have breakfast prepared for her by Eddy.

The Tin Man

One of the dreadful fast food "restaurants", which our children declare as the only true source of eatable food, is currently giving away Wizard of Oz characters with its' greasy offerings. Eddy is the proud recipient of a Tin Man doll whilst Little Ted has a Ninja Turtle - I don't recall Ninja Turtles being in The Wizard of Oz. Anyway it seems that the Tin Man made a greater impression on Little Ted than the Ninja Turtle; or maybe he just couldn't find a turtle shell to wear.

Speaking of turtles, I came home the other day to find a red eared slider walking up the driveway. He didn't like me and pretty soon turned around and left to re-acquaint himself with the drainage ditch beyond the next street.

Shrek 3D

Check out Little Ted's eyes. Not even picking up popcorn can avert his eyes from the TV screen.
Is this where the expression "goggle eyed" came from?
