I came across this little chap, about 24" long, on my evening bicycle ride around the sub-division yesterday evening. He was sitting in the middle of the pavement at the end of the dead end street which has no houses built on it yet. By the time I got the camera out he had slithered into the gutter and I was too timid to attempt a good "head shot" for identification purposes. Mrs Ted, after consulting our copy of Texas Snakes [ISBN: 1-58979-209-2], decided I was right to be cautious as the Western Cottonmouth is venomous.
