The Fit Family

This weekend Ted decided to take his family cycling at Goose Island State Park. So on Saturday evening he loaded the bikes on the carrier and drove out over the causeway to the park. We had left it rather late in the evening and so only managed a 2 mile saunter around the campsite loop. However it was such a success that we agreed to revisit this activity on Sunday evening but this time we took our dinner with us and made an evening of it.
Again everyone had a good time and we managed to spot some deer in spite of the noise we were making (well, have you tried cycling with 2 young excited kids?). The kids took turns riding a kids bike with training wheels and the "attached" bike trailing behind Ted's bike. It was obvious to the adults that the training wheels were unnecessary but the kids were not convinced. We finally negotiated the removal of the training wheels and, to Eddy's great surprise (but not her parents'), she shot off on her own and managed to maintain her balance very well. Still needs work on the riding in a straight line and watching where she is going department but overall a great success. Here is the actual moment of revelation recorded for posterity.

... and so to the serious business of landing some fish

Goose Island - the fear overcome!

On Wednesday Ted took the day off to look after his kids and, amongst other activities, dragged them kicking and screaming to confront their "issues" with The Goose Island State Park.
Regular readers may recall the disastrous trip to Goose Island last year when the kids lost their flip flops after ignoring Daddy's advice to not go down the steps to the water.
Ever since that fateful day any suggestion of revisiting the scene of the disaster has been met with fervent cries of "nooooo, not Goose Island!"
Well - no more, everyone has now overcome their irrational fear of our local State Park and we can go fishing off the pier anytime we like. We may even arrange an overnight camping / fishing trip.

I can't see the attraction of standing ankle deep in mud, trying to catch a fish too stupid to come any where near us.

  • Foyle's War
Well that pretty much describes Ted's feelings about fishing in Scotland but now that he is in Texas things have changed and he is willing to stand in nice warm Gulf waters and catch, or not, any fish that care to come along.

Anyway I digress as it was my intention to let y'all know that I watched the latest episode of Foyle's War last night which aired on PBS at 8pm
Glad to see the old boy back in harness and expressing the intention to "see the war out" back in his old job as "DCS" in Hastings even although that rank was not introduced until 1949:-)

Post haircut ice cream treat

This was last Saturday when Ted and Little Ted paid a visit to the barber and had a summer haircut. Little Ted got the better deal!
